After All - The Vermin Breed
Not long ago I wrote a review in which I said that I hardly knew metal bands from Belgium. Things change. I was very pleased I got ‘The Vermin Breed’ promo by After All in my mailbox. Because this is another Belgian metal band. Let’s see if do like it.
Like I said, After All is from Belgium. The Vermin Breed is already their 5th full length album. They’ve build up a quite a nice live performance history with bands like Paradise Lost, Voivod, Saxon, Anthrax, Overkill, Life Of Agony, Therion, Apocalyptica and many more bands. And still I’ve never heard of this band. (Shame on me).
The musical style can be described as old school metal, with influences of Metallica (first cd’s), Testament, Slayer, Overkill etc. Great heavy thrash. Everything about this album is just right. A great mix of 80’s metal with a 21st century sound, a high head bang level, a great singer, good solo’s and neat guitar riffs. Sometimes I hear some hardcore influences (The great divide), short aggressive phrases, yes on this music I really want get into a moshpit. I’m sure by hearing The Vermin Breed that After All has to be a great live band.
The cd never got me bored, it has a lot of variety, fast thrashy and slower parts alternate each other in a great way.
The cd includes also a video-track of the song Descending Pain which is not a song of The Vermin Breed but is from their 4th cd Mercury Rising. But I don’t know if this video-track is also available on the normal release of The Vermin Breed. It also includes a trailer of the cd with some scenes in the studio, but in my opinion they could have omitted that.
Another extra: The cd includes a hidden track, but they could have omitted that as well.
I really like The Vermin Breed. It will be played a lot at my place, I can assure you that! Again a cd for me to play in the car when I am in a hurry!
